The Boston Red Sox are on their way to their first postseason appearance since their ALCS run back in 2021. Now, they need to find a way to fight from the Wildcard all the way through the ALCS, and try to make it as easy as possible.
Fansided’s Chris Landers thinks he has the perfect path for them, with the Sox facing off against the New York Yankees in the Wild Card, the Detroit Tigers in the ALDS, and the Houston Astros in the ALCS.
“You know that Boston would kill to welcome New York to Fenway Park for a best-of-three Wild Card series…they'd much prefer to see Detroit in this spot, especially considering the solid effort they put up against Skubal the one time they faced the lefty earlier this year. And, forced to choose between Seattle and Houston in the ALCS, the Red Sox should take the latter every time given how inconsistent this offense has been and how the Mariners' pitching depth could take advantage of Boston's middling (of late) offense — you never want to go into a series at a rotation disadvantage,” Landers wrote.
All of these are valid takes. The Sox own the Yankees this season, with a record of 8-2 against them so far. The Tigers are a better option than the Toronto Blue Jays, as the Sox put up more of a fight in their series with Detroit than Toronto.
Finally, the Sox won their season series with the Astros 4-2, so it would be great to face another team that the Sox have their number.
Hopefully it does pan out like Landers said as the Sox have a real chance to make it all the way, especially if they can make it deep into the postseason and get a boost from Roman Anthony’s return.
