The big name free agents are still out there.

Kyle Tucker, Bo Bichette and yes, Alex Bregman.

Bregman reportedly has four suitors for his signature, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal:

  • Boston Red Sox
  • Toronto Blue Jays
  • Chicago Cubs
  • Arizona Diamondbacks

While Bregman going to the National League would be interesting, it's not as intriguing as the battle between the AL East foes in Boston and Toronto.

The Athletic's Jen McCaffrey has reported that Bregman "remains a priority" to re-sign for the Red Sox.

And adding on to that, the Blue Jays are a "legitimate suitor" for Bregman, according to Rosenthal.

One or the other being the one to land Bregman could put a big shift into the AL East's balance of power.

The Blue Jays, Red Sox and Yankees all made the playoffs in 2025. The Orioles are pushing to make a big leap, and the Rays are always sneakily dangerous.

The Red Sox still need a third baseman, and Bregman would be their guy. The Blue Jays, especially if Bichette leaves, would love to slot Bregman at third and allow Ernie Clement to play shortstop.

These big-name free agents appear to be heading to a post-Christmas signing period. The bidding will only get more intense, and someone is going to get a very good player in Bregman.
