With the Toronto Blue Jays signing Kazuma Okamoto, the Boston Red Sox have lost yet another rumored target. With this in mind, they definitely need to make a splash this offseason.

With all the moves that have been made, the Sox have two choices from their original targets: Alex Bregman and Bo Bichette.

3B Alex Bregman

Retaining Bregman should have been one of the first things the Sox did this offseason, but to their credit, waiting him out lowers his price, and if they get him now, it’ll be cheaper than if they did it off the bat.

Bregman instantly became a, if not THE, leader of Boston as soon as he joined. While he may have had a slightly down year with injury, the intangibles he brings to a young Boston core is invaluable.

However, if they don’t pull off getting him on a smaller deal, or even miss out on re-signing him, then the wait and see approach was pointless, and leaves them with only one choice.

2B/SS/3B Bo Bichette

While Bichette is quite the opposite of Bregman on defense, he’s a step up offensively. He’s also in the core roster’s timeline, being the age range of early-to-mid 20’s.

Bichette would get a deal around the same length as Bregman’s albeit a little higher when it comes to overall money. However, as previously stated, he would be in his prime during it unlike Bregman.

Overall, if the Sox were truly serious about contending, they would sign both guys. However, if they want to set a self-imposed limit, they need to land one or the other, or risk destroying the bricks they laid in 2025 to be contenders.
