The Boston Red Sox acquired Garrett Crochet to be an ace, and an ace he was on Tuesday night.
Crochet carved up the New York Yankees to the tune of 11 strikeouts over 7.2 innings, allowing one run and seemingly getting stronger as the game progressed. Crochet threw 117 pitches and got the win after the Red Sox pulled ahead in the seventh inning and held on in the ninth.
Compared to the rest of 2025, the dominance for Crochet against the rival Yankees was nothing new.
Here’s a look at how Crochet has performed against the Yankees this season.

Garrett Crochet stats vs. Yankees in 2025
Crochet posted a 2.59 ERA in his first season with the Red Sox, and his numbers were even more impressive against a slugging Yankees lineup:
Starts | W-L | IP | ERA | K | BB |
5 | 4-0 | 35.0 | 2.57 | 50 | 4 |
While Crochet's 2.57 ERA is nearly identical, he posted an otherworldly 50:4 strikeout-to-walk ratio and won each decision. Crochet notched double-digit strikeouts in three of his five starts against the Yankees, including Tuesday's Game 1 win, and half of the earned runs he allowed against New York were limited to his first meeting with Aaron Judge and co. in June.
Crochet saved some of his best stuff for the brightest lights, dominating the Yankees on the road in Game 1. He allowed only four hits and struck out 11, walking none, and set a new season high in pitches with 117. Crochet's only blemish was an early home run off the bat of Anthony Volpe.
Here are some of Crochet's biggest moments from Game 1 of the Wild Card Series.
