On Tuesday night, the two famed AL clubs will meet at Yankee Stadium for Game 1 of a best-of-three Wild Card series. Owning arguably the greatest rivalry in MLB history, there's an expectation for drama in Red Sox vs. Yankees — in their history of postseason matchups, Boston and New York have gone an even 12-12 against one another.

While the Yankees (94-68) come into their home playoff series with momentum despite barely missing out on another AL East title, the Red Sox (89-73) have stuck around in the AL playoff picture all year, making the bracket for the first time since 2021.

Tuesday night should bring one of the best pitching matchups of the entire postseason in Max Fried vs. Garrett Crochet. Both were among the best starters in the AL throughout 2025, with Fried posting a 2.86 ERA and 189 punchouts in his first season as a Yankee and Crochet emerging as one of MLB's true aces with a 2.59 ERA and league-leading 255 strikeouts.

Between Aaron Judge, Alex Bregman, Jarren Duran and Cody Bellinger, there's plenty of star power for another high-stakes chapter of Yankees-Red Sox. While the defending American League champs are still hungry for their first title since 2009, Boston is looking to return to the Fall Classic for the first time since 2018. Which side starts its postseason with a victory?
