Playing in a division like the American League East, the Boston Red Sox need to be at their best every season. That was not so much the case in 2025, as they had trouble being consistent.
They finished the regular season with a record of 89-73, which was an upgrade over what they did in 2024, but it was not enough to make the postseason.
The fanbase is hoping that will change in 2026, as the club has made multiple moves to potentially put together a better product on the field for the upcoming season.

Ex-MLB GM takes notice of the offseason the Red Sox have had so far
The Red Sox have made multiple moves that should put them in a better place for the 2026 season. In November, they engaged in a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals to acquire starting pitcher Sonny Gray.
In December, they made another trade with the Cardinals to acquire Willson Contreras, and they also acquired Johan Oviedo and Jake Bennett.
With this, The Athletic's Jim Bowden places Boston as the fifth most-improved club so far over the offseason.
"Boston traded some good prospects that [Chaim] Bloom was really high on for starter Sonny Gray and first baseman Willson Contreras. Gray is the Red Sox's new No. 2 starter and slots behind Garrett Crochet. Contreras is a significant upgrade at first base and he will supplant Triston Casas and others as the everyday first baseman."
Boston could certainly keep improving. As Bowden later states, the club is still in the running to sign Alex Bregman, Bo Bichette, or Eugenio Suarez.
If they can come to terms with one of these players, Bowden will potentially have to revise his list and move the Red Sox a couple of spots further ahead of where he currently lists them.
