The Baltimore Orioles have gotten really busy so far this offseason. After a fourth-place finish in the AL East last season, the front office is looking to put a better product on the field in 2026.

They have added players like Leody Taveras and Ryan Helsey, but no signing has been bigger than Pete Alonso's. He and Baltimore came to an agreement on a five-year, $155 million deal.

This drastically changes Baltimore's contending status going into the new season.

Now, the club needs to focus on bringing in a starting pitcher. A frontline starter could be the final piece of this puzzle.

Despite signing Pete Alonso to such a big deal, the club is not out on big-name pitchers on the open market. They are still tied to names like Framber Valdez or Michael King.

However, they could also take a look at what the trade market looks like. MLB.com's Jake Rill believes they have what it takes to get a deal done with the Miami Marlins to acquire Edward Cabrera.

"Baltimore was linked to Miami in reports even before the signing of Alonso. Now, it could make a ton of sense, as the Marlins could fill a hole at first base by acquiring either Ryan Mountcastle or Coby Mayo, and parting ways with Cabrera to do so."

Baltimore has already been linked to Cabrera, and Miami has dangled multiple starting pitchers on the open market for years. They are not contenders, and could fill a hole at first base, which could help the club.

Mountcastle or Mayo should be intriguing enough for this deal to get done. However, pair that with a prospect, and it could be hard for Miami to say no to this.
