Orioles predicted to sign $161 million All-Star ace as response to Edward Cabrera trade image

With the Chicago Cubs trading for Edward Cabrera, the Baltimore Orioles will need to look elsewhere for another starting pitcher to support Trevor Rogers as a No. 2 in the rotation.

Fansided’s Christopher Kline believes that the O’s should go in the direction of signing All-Star ace Ranger Suarez, whose reliability and firepower would fit perfectly in Baltimore’s rotation.

“The Baltimore Orioles acquired Shane Baz via trade and re-signed Zach Eflin, but this pitching staff still needs a bit more firepower up top. Ranger Suárez is an All-Star at the peak of his powers, or at least close to it. He’s consistent, durable, and above all else, extremely poised under pressure. His postseason track record stands out, and he’d bring valuable pedigree to a young O’s roster,” Kline wrote.

This past season, Suarez posted a 12-8 record, a 3.20 ERA, 151 Ks, and a WHIP of 1.220 over 157 innings pitched. He’s durable, he wins, and he strikes batters out. All qualities a front-end starter needs.

Suarez is projected to receive a six-year, $161 million contract this offseason, and for the O’s, that may be ok. They’ve already proved they are ready to spend this offseason when they signed Pete Alonso to a five-year, $155 million deal.

If the Orioles are truly serious about creating a contender, then going out and getting Suarez is the right move. If they do, they’ll be a force to be reckoned with in the American League.
