The Baltimore Orioles had a very disappointing season this year, after being contenders in 2024. Now, they need to make a move that could make sure they don’t go back to being routine disappointments.
Fansided’s Christopher Kline believes that move is trading for two-time Cy Young and five-time All-Star Jacob deGrom, who could be the replacement ace for Corbin Burnes, who the O’s lost last offseason.

“The Baltimore Orioles want pitching. That much is known. Is Baltimore willing to pay the rest of deGrom's contract? History tells us no, but this is a team that made an aggressive, if ultimately unsuccessful, push to retain Corbin Burnes on a multi-year contract. In theory, GM Mike Elias has more spending power under the new ownership group, and the pressure to build an immediate winner has never been more palpable. The short-term nature of deGrom's contract, which could expire after two years, might keep the door ajar for a Baltimore club with plenty of prospect capital to trade,” Kline wrote.
This past season, deGrom posted a 12-8 record, a 2.97 ERA, 185 Ks, and a 0.921 WHIP over 172 innings pitched. Putting him atop the rotation gives them a respected ace and makes the O’s much harder to deal with.
Plus, the O’s would have one of the better 1-2 punches in baseball with deGrom and Trevor Rogers. Rogers had an amazing year this past season, and acquiring deGrom could help continue that momentum.
Hopefully, the Orioles pony up and try to make this trade, as it could be a huge step toward returning to their contending form.
