The Baltimore Orioles will head into the offseason looking to put to bed a rather poor 2025 season. They could not get much going, falling into last place in the American League East division and missing the postseason for the first time since 2022.
They did not get much from their sluggers on the offensive side of things, with Adley Rustchman, Colton Cowser, and Coby Mayo underperforming. They were also without Tyler O'Neill for much of the season as he battled neck inflammation, left shoulder impingement, and right wrist inflammation.
They also did not get much from their pitching staff. The club combined for a team ERA of 4.60, which is the fifth-worst ERA across MLB, and to compete in the AL East, they are going to have to turn that around.
Orioles-Marlins trade rumor sends Sandy Alcantara to Baltimore
Baltimore could look at making an upgrade to their pitching staff through free agency, or they can take a look at which teams may be looking to part ways with one of their arms. The Athletic's Jim Bowden believes that Miami Marlins pitcher Sandy Alcantara could be made available this winter.
"The Marlins hold a team option for Alcantara for 2027, so he's under team control for two more seasons. If Miami doesn't get the asking price it wants this winter, the team will just hold onto him until next year's trade deadline."
Bowden points to Baltimore being one of the teams that would likely be interested in Alcantara, but the price must be right. Miami will hold onto its ace if it feels they are not getting a good deal. If the Orioles want to get a deal done, they will likely have to part ways with multiple top prospects.
