The Baltimore Orioles just missed out on Kyle Schwarber, as their $150 million offer over five years matched the Philadelphia Phillies', but wasn't enough to win Schwarber over.
The same cannot be said for their pursuit of Pete Alonso.
According to ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan, the Orioles and Alonso agreed on a $155 million contract over five seasons to be Baltimore's new first baseman.
With Alonso now in the fold, the Orioles' projected lineup for the 2026 season is a very interesting one that Baltimore fans should be ecstatic about.
Orioles lineup projection for 2026 after Pete Alonso signing
Alonso joining the Orioles lineup creates some crowded room at the first base/designated hitter/catcher spot.
A new-look lineup could look like this in 2026:
- Jackson Holliday, second base
- Taylor Ward, left field
- Gunnar Henderson, shortstop
- Pete Alonso, first base
- Adley Rustchman, catcher
- Jordan Westburg, third base
- Coby Mayo, designated hitter
- Colton Cowser, center field
- Dylan Beavers, right field
This lineup would be an incredible one to trot out to begin the season, but this might look a lot different depending on matchups and any other moves the Orioles make this winter.
Missing from that lineup are backup catcher Samuel Basallo, outfielder/designated hitter Tyler O'Neill and first baseman Ryan Mountcastle.

While Mountcastle's time in Baltimore is likely coming to an end, especially after Alonso's signing, the other bench options could be rotated in and out of the lineup depending on matchups.
Alonso could also become the Orioles' primary designated hitter if his defense proves to be too rough. Regardless of where these players line up, the Orioles' new-look lineup is a lot deeper and more robust thanks to Alonso.
This projected lineup will likely look a bit different going forward, as some players could move up or down depending on matchups and how hot a player is at the moment.
Regardless of how the lineup is set on Opening Day, it's going to be a great one for the Orioles after this $155 million Alonso signing.
