The Baltimore Orioles are one of the teams many insiders expect to have an active offseason. Whether it's in the starting pitching, closer, or outfield markets, the Orioles are set to be aggressive this winter.
Mike Elias has a few former Houston Astros players he's interested in, with Kyle Tucker and Framber Valdez being two great potential additions. But another former Astros free agent could be on the table this winter.
Alex Bregman could reunite with Elias in Baltimore, but that potential took a huge hit with a new report from Will Sammon and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
Why Alex Bregman isn't likely to come to Baltimore
"Elias was the Houston Astros' scouting director who chose free-agent third baseman Alex Bregman second and Kyle Tucker fifth in the first round of the 2015 draft." Sammon and Rosenthal write. "... Stocked with infielders, the Orioles are not expected to pursue Bregman."
Baltimore could win by targeting a few former Astros players brought in under Elias' tenure, but Bregman is not expected to be one of them.
The reason is clear: the Orioles' depth chart in the infield is too crowded to welcome a player like Bregman.

Jackson Holliday, Jordan Westburg, Coby Mayo, Gunnar Henderson, and Ryan Mountcastle make up a crowded infield, and that isn't even including the lack of a designated hitter spot, thanks to Samuel Basallo and Adley Rutschman.
The Orioles don't have any room for Bregman, and while he would be an upgrade over a few of their current infielders, it doesn't make sense to add Bregman and move on from young talent.
Tucker and Valdez are realistic targets, but Bregman, with the Orioles' very crowded infield, is not an option for Elias and Baltimore to consider. Bregman is not likely to come to the Orioles, as he's set to sign elsewhere.
