Braves sign 3.54 ERA LHP to free agent contract image

The Atlanta Braves have added a well-traveled southpaw to their pitching depth for 2026.

On Friday, they reached a minor league contract agreement with the 34-year old lefty Martin Perez, according to Aram Leighton.

Perez is coming off a season in which he had a 3.54 ERA in 11 outings for the Chicago White Sox.

The Venezuelan left-hander has made an All-Star team in his career and also has a World Series ring from his time with the 2023 Texas Rangers.

In all, Perez has pitched 14 seasons in the big leagues to the tune of a 4.41 ERA.

He has thrown for the Rangers, Red Sox, Twins, Pirates, White Sox and Padres.

Perez was an All Star in 2022 with Texas as he finished that season with a 2.89 ERA.

His last 21 big league outings, dating back to 10 with the Padres at the end of 2024, have seen Perez put up an ERA of about 3.50, so it seems like he may have discovered a bit of something at the tail end of  his career to keep him relevant.

Perez was never a hard thrower, so it's really about finesse and craftiness for him as he heads to spring training to try and prove to the Braves that he belongs in the major leagues.

Even if he starts the year in Triple-A, Perez is proven enough that it wouldn't be surprising to see him up in the majors at some point this season.
