After another year of missing the postseason, the Atlanta Braves have some decisions to make. They need a way to reload their roster without going through a rebuild.

One of those ways is getting a solid star this offseason. Fansided’s Mark Powell believes the Braves could be a dark horse candidate to steal superstar closer Edwin Diaz from their rival, the New York Mets

“If Diaz does opt out, one team to watch is the Atlanta Braves. Yes, those Braves. Raisel Iglesias is just fine, but far too often he gives this fanbase a heart attack. Stealing the Mets best reliever – and one of the top closers in baseball – and adding it to their war chest is all too tempting,” Powell wrote.

This season, Diaz was amazing for the Mets. He had a record of 6-3, an ERA of 1.63, a WHIP of 0.874, and 28 saves over 62 games. Right now, the Braves have Raisel Iglesias, who is a decent closer, but nowhere near the level of Diaz.

If the Braves could somehow land Diaz, it would be getting two birds with one stone; they get one of the best closers in the game, and it directly hurts their division rival.

If the Braves can get Diaz and another star free agent, or make a trade for a star, they definitely put themselves in contention for the driver’s seat of the NL East. Hopefully they start with Diaz, and get to dialing as soon as the offseason begins.
