With the questions about what the Atlanta Braves are going to do at the shortstop position, there are a few different directions that many think the Braves could go.
Insider Ken Rosenthal had the latest on the Braves' plans, stating that in a perfect world, the team will go out and get another shortstop. After trading for Mauricio Dubon in a deal with the Houston Astros, it still feels safe to say that Atlanta will be in the market for a shortstop.
The best one available is none other than Bo Bichette, the Toronto Blue Jays free agent.
Bichette seems to be an ideal candidate for a team like the Braves, but according to Rosenthal, while he's played shortstop, teams don't view him as a future shortstop.
He stated that teams are a bit questionable about his defensive abilities and view him as more of a second or third baseman.
“Perfect world? They (the Braves) get another shortstop,” Rosenthal said on “Fair Territory.” “It’s just going to be difficult to do that. As I wrote last week, we talked about this on Fair and Foul Territory — Mauricio Dubon is a floor for them. He is at least a guy that can cover the position if they do not get someone else, and the problem is, outside of Ha-Seong Kim, there really isn’t a quality shortstop available. Yes, Bo Bichette has played shortstop, but teams generally don’t view him as the future at that position. They view his future more at second base or third base.”
When landing someone like Bichette, the idea would be to add his bat to the lineup. He's a very below-average defender, so that seems like something the Braves will have to keep in mind.
