Braves cut ties with 5 players after disappointing season image

The Atlanta Braves are cleaning house after a disappointing 2025 season.

This week, they outrighted five players off the 40-man roster, meaning they will become free agents.

The five players:

  • OF Jarred Kelenic
  • C Sandy Leon
  • OF Luke Williams
  • RHP Alexis Diaz
  • RHP Dane Dunning

Kelenic might be the biggest name of the bunch. He was once a top prospect for the Seattle Mariners, but he never panned out there.

The Braves traded for him before the 2024 season, and he spent most of that campaign in Atlanta, hitting just .231 with limited power. This season, Kelenic batted .167 in a small sample size before spending the season in Triple-A, where he batted just .213.

Diaz is another notable name, having come to Atlanta off waivers from the Dodgers in September. But his brutal season didn't get better, and the brother of Mets closer Edwin didn't earn a chance to stick around.

The Braves have three notable veteran free agents who are about to come off the books, as well, in Raisel Iglesias, Marcell Ozuna and Charlie Morton.

This offseason will be crucial in Atlanta. The Braves didn't plan on a fourth-place finish in the NL East, and they'll have to make the right moves to get back on the right track for 2026.
