While there has not been much to write home about when it comes to the Athletics the last few years, this past season was different. There was a different product on the field, one of youngsters looking to make a name for themselves.

Rookies Jacob Wilson, Brent Rooker, and Nick Kurtz all played well-above expectations, with Kurtz recently taking home the AL Rookie of the Year Award.

Now, the attention turns toward the future, and the club could take the next step with a few good moves during the offseason. They could use another frontline starter and need an upgrade at either second or third base.

The A's are under pressure from the MLB's labor deal to spend this winter. So, expect them to be involved in more talks with free agents than they have in seasons past.

It will be a tough sell for the team to go after some of the bigger free agents on the open market, but they could have a run at some quality free agents a tier or two below the best.

Needing some infield versatility, they could go after someone like Luis Rengifo. He has tons of experience at third base, and as a veteran, could help the younger players. Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter believes he would fit in perfectly with the A's.

"A year after signing Gio Urshela and Luis Urias to bargain deals, they will again be in the market for a low-cost infielder with some versatility, and Luis Rengifo fits the bill."

Rengifo would not cost the team too much, allowing them to use that money to potentially find another frontline starter to pair with Luis Severino. With this, they could show up in 2026 and surprise a lot of teams.
