This past season, the Athletics said goodbye to the Coliseum and played their home games at Sutter Field Park in Sacramento. This is also where the club will play in 2026 and 2027 until their ballpark in Las Vegas is built.
They are the only MLB team currently playing in a minor league stadium, now that the Tampa Bay Rays will return to Tropicana in 2026. Sutter Health Field holds about 14,000 people, and the amount of energy is nowhere near that of other stadiums.
The facilities are also small compared to MLB venues. Combine all of that, and the noncommittment to the city of Sacramento, and it could be hard for people to buy in until they make the move to Las Vegas official.
Athletics manager Mark Kotsay ready to trade Sacramento limbo for Las Vegas reality
The A's are not just getting an MLB-level ballpark; they are also getting all the bells and whistles that go with it. They will get a massive clubhouse, an MLB-level performance center, along with batting cages and family rooms.
On top of that, the stadium is also projected to have an 18,000-square-foot jumbotron, which would be the largest in MLB, and a fixed-roof dome to handle the Vegas heat. For Kotsay, this move cannot come soon enough, via Chris Townsend.
"I love the thought process of having our own stadium and being able to have a group of guys work out there in November, December, and in January, and drop into the stadium and be able to hang out and have lunch with the guys in the offseason."
Not only will the A's have their own ballpark, but they will have a space for all the players to come to during the offseason and prepare for the upcoming season.
For Kotsay and the players, they have a few more seasons to go through before their move will become official, but it is something everyone can look forward to.
