Athletics’ Luis Severino named as a possible trade chip image

Athletics starting pitcher Luis Severino could see himself on the trade market this offseason.

The former New York Yankees standout has bounced around the league since departing the Bronx in 2023. He spent the 2024 season with the New York Mets, and last season with the Athletics.

He pitched to a 8-11 record with a 4.54 ERA in 2025, far from his old ace-level standards.

Severino will be entering the second season of a three-year, $64 million deal he signed with the A’s before last season. The deal was the largest free agent contract the team has ever handed out.

Given his poor performance, ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan have noted that Severino could be on the move this winter.

If he’s moved, it’ll be his third team in as many seasons. After a promising start to his career in New York, too many injuries and inconsistent performance may be resulting in what is now a sharp decline in production.
