The Athletics aren't expected to be the biggest spenders this winter, but they are likely to add to their payroll as they prepare to make the move to Las Vegas.

While adding a starting pitcher or two will be important for the A's, so too is making sure their current core of young position players are locked up for the future.

According to ESPN's Alden Gonzalez, the Athletics are strongly considering and would love to find a way to extend the likes of Nick Kurtz, Jacob Wilson, and Shea Langeliers.

"The A's extended Brent Rooker and Lawrence Butler last offseason," Gonzalez writes, "and now they'd love to find a way to lock up the likes of Nick Kurtz, Jacob Wilson, and Shea Langeliers."

Extending these three young position players would be a great way to retain the club's core intact for years to come. While signing players to long-term deals after just one or a few years in the league is risky, it carries immense upside.

Teams have extended young players beyond their arbitration years, often in recent seasons, and Kurtz, Wilson, and Langeliers could be next in line for such deals.

Kurtz is 22 years old and coming off a Rookie of the Year and Silver Slugger awards in 2025. He hit 36 home runs and.290 in 2025, recording 5.4 bWAR in 117 games for the Athletics last season.

Wilson is 23 years old and coming off a strong All-Star season where he had a.311 batting average and 13 home runs in 125 games. While he played in 28 games in 2024, his 2025 season was his first full year in the Majors, and it was a resounding success.

Langeliers is the oldest of the three, at 28 years old. He's already played in the Majors across four seasons and is under club control through the 2028 season. He hit.277 in 2025 with 31 home runs and a career-high 3.9 bWAR.

Extending Kurtz and Wilson would mean that he would have to go beyond their final arbitration years in 2031. Langeliers is a bit different, since his contract is up a lot sooner than the two top rookies from 2025.

This report from Gonzalez is a good sign that the Athletics are acknowledging the importance of retaining these core position players on the roster going forward.

Kurtz, Wilson, and Langeliers are great young players, and all are players the Athletics are trying to retain for the long haul this offseason.
