The Athletics aren't atop the biggest spenders in Major League Baseball, but they have begun to change things up recently.

Tyler Soderstrom signed a massive extension to stay with the Athletics for the next seven years, and there have been rumors that more young players could be signing long-term deals in the future as well.

That's just what happened, as according to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Athletics are in agreement on a massive $70 million extension with Jacob Wilson that will cover the next seven years.

Athletics agree to $70M extension with Jacob Wilson

"BREAKING: Shortstop Jacob Wilson and the Athletics are in agreement on a seven-year, $70 million contract extension that includes an eight-year club option, sources tell ESPN," Passan reported.

This is a major deal for the Athletics to hand out. Wilson has played in just two MLB seasons and only 153 games total. But after an impressive 2025 season, the Athletics are extending him for the foreseeable future.

Wilson, in 125 games in 2025, made the All-Star team and finished with 151 hits, 62 runs scored, 26 doubles, 13 home runs, 63 RBIs, 27 walks, only 39 strikeouts, a.311 batting average, an.800 OPS, and 3.0 bWAR in a breakout season.

The 23-year-old 1st round pick in the 2023 MLB Draft is in agreement on a deal to stay with the Athletics for the next seven years, plus a club option for the eighth season.

He joins Soderstrom (7 for $86M) in big-money deals alongside Lawrence Butler (7 for $65.5M) and Brent Rooker (5 for $60M).

Wilson is staying with the A's for the foreseeable future, now set to be with the team through potentially the 2033 season.

Next in line for an extension is Nick Kurtz, the AL Rookie of the Year from 2025, whom the A's cannot afford to let go. He's one of the best sluggers in baseball and should be the next deal the A's make going forward.
