The Arizona Diamondbacks got some free agency business done early.
On Friday, the Diamondbacks inked former All-Star catcher James McCann to a contract.
McCann's signing to a one-year contract was announced by The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal. The Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro disclosed the terms of a $2.75 million guarantee, which includes $500,000 in possible bonuses.
McCann ended this past season with the Diamondbacks, but he didn't start with Arizona.
During the previous offseason, McCann signed a minor league deal with The Braves. He held the option to leave if a Major League Baseball position became available, which occurred with The Diamondbacks in June after Gabriel Moreno fractured a finger, prompting McCann's move to Arizona.
He played in 42 games for Arizona and batted.260 with a.754 OPS.
McCann has secured a standard major league contract for the upcoming season, marking his 36th year.

McCann's career spans 12 major league seasons, starting with the Detroit Tigers and continuing with stints on the White Sox, Mets, and Orioles.
He's a career.242 hitter with 97 career home runs.
In 2019, McCann earned an All-Star selection while playing for The White Sox, a season where he achieved personal bests with 26 doubles and 18 home runs.
At this point, McCann is expected to back up Moreno in the desert. He's about as reliable a backup catcher as they come.
