Diamondbacks predicted to make blockbuster trade for $53 million All-Star ace to temporarily replace Corbin Burnes image

The Arizona Diamondbacks have been one of the top teams in trade rumors this offseason, especially for their All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte. If they were to move him, they would need to get something great in return.

Fansided’s Christopher Kline believes that the DBacks could make a trade with, or at least include the Cincinnati Reds in a trade for their All-Star ace, Hunter Greene.

“Arizona should at least explore the possibility of working Marte into the framework of a larger Hunter Greene trade with the Cincinnati Reds. Cincy needs the infield upgrade and would surely appreciate the mix of affordability and control Marte provides…Greene falls well within Arizona's budget and gives the Snakes another frontline arm to build the rotation around. In terms of contract length, age and statistical profile, Greene might be the best pitching asset available this winter. It would take a king's ransom to pry him out of Cincinnati, but it's Ketel Marte or a boatload of prospects, the D'Backs ought to place their bid,” Kline wrote.

This past season, Greene posted a 7-4 record, an ERA of 2.76, 132 Ks, and a WHIP of 0.938 over 107 innings pitched. He could be a great pitcher to temporarily replace Corbin Burnes at the top of the rotation and shift to the No. 2 slot when he returns.

The only thing the DBacks may want to consider is Greene’s availability. As mentioned, he only pitched 107 innings last season. If he can’t bring that number to 170+, then he may not be worth it.

However, he’s too good to leave it to chance. Hopefully, the Diamondbacks put in a bid for the flamethrower to at least say they tried.
