The Arizona Diamondbacks had a pretty disappointing season this year, and that can be attributed to their lack of pitching. Losing their ace in Corbin Burnes to injury, trading away Merrill Kelly, and the rotation just not performing hurt them a lot.
If the DBacks want to get back to contention, they need a boost in the rotation. Fansided’s Christopher Kline believes that the boost is two-time Cy Young and five-time All-Star Jacob deGrom.
“The Arizona Diamondbacks came out of left field to sign Corbin Burnes last offseason and the need for quality starting pitching persists. Burnes will begin 2026 on the IL as he recovers from Tommy John surgery, while Zac Gallen is a free agent. The contract is an issue with deGrom, but if Arizona can stomach the money after shedding so much cash over the last few months, it's a strong fit. That said, the age and durability concerns between deGrom and Burnes could prevent the D'Backs from tying their boat to that particular anchor,” Kline wrote.
This past season, deGrom posted a 12-8 record, a 2.97 ERA, 185 Ks, and a 0.921 WHIP over 172 innings pitched. He would be the major boost the DBacks rotation sorely needs.
deGrom would have to start the year without Burnes, as he comes back from Tommy John. However, when he does return, it would create 1-2 punch to be feared.
Hopefully, the DBacks consider trading for this superstar and get to work on an offer they can throw to Texas.
