Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte trade plans revealed by MLB insider image

The Arizona Diamondbacks were active before the 2025 MLB trade deadline in dealing away players who were on expiring contracts.

Now that the offseason has arrived, any new trades would involve players that Arizona still controls for the future.

That doesn't mean there aren't any deals to be made, though.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale sees Ketel Marte as a prime trade candidate.

"The Diamondbacks will ask for a lot in return, but they are definitely motivated in moving him with $71 million remaining through 2030," Nightengale writes. "If they don’t move him by mid-April, Marte will have 10-and-5 rights and a full no-trade provision."

Marte is already 32 years old, so it wouldn't be crazy to expect a decline to start sooner rather than later.

By the same token, he's coming off a season in which he batted.283 with 28 doubles, 28 homers and an.893 OPS.

This is a guy who clearly would still be of use to a contender's lineup.

The Diamondbacks have to decide on their own contention timeline. At this point, everything has to be built around superstar Corbin Carroll. That means Arizona may look to get just a tad younger to carry on a winning team well into the future.

Another team could be the beneficiary if Marte ends up on their roster instead of Arizona's.
