Thompson (AL) vs. Opelika (AL): Live updates, score of Alabama AHSAA Class 7A championship game image

Thompson is seeking to repeat as Alabama Class 7A champions, but Opelika has other ideas.

In the first of the Alabama High School Athletic Association Super 7 high school football championship games at Birmingham’s Protective Stadium, Thompson’s Warriors take on the Bulldogs from Opelika.

Both Thompson and Opelika enter Wednesday’s title game with identical 10-3 records. The Warriors are playing in their eighth consecutive Class 7A championship game, which is an AHSAA record for all classes, while on the other side of the coin, Opelika is making its first-ever appearance in the 7A championship game.

The AHSAA Super 7 series of state title games continues with three more games on Thursday and three on Friday, all in Birmingham.

SECOND QUARTER

- TOUCHDOWN THOMPSON. And the Warriors continue being in command. Trent Seaborn with his third TD pass, a 38-yarder to Pryce Lewis who makes a couple of moves to break loose after catching a short throw. (Thompson, 34-0 | 1:46, 2nd) 

- Opelika ends up punting again, and Thompson takes over with less than two minutes left until the break. 

- Opelika has its initial first down of the night with nearly four minutes to go in the half. 

- TOUCHDOWN THOMPSON. Everything going the Warriors' way. On a fourth down from the Opelika 33, Trent Seaborn launches a deep pass, and Pryce Lewis is right there to haul it in for the score. (Thompson, 27-0 | 4:48, 2nd) 

- And Thompson picks off a pass on Opelika's next series. Going from bad to worse for the Bulldogs now. 

- TOUCHDOWN THOMPSON. Warriors go 60 yards in 10 plays, finishing with a 3-yard run by KJ Jackson. (Thompson, 20-0 | 6:37, 2nd) 

- Thompson driving again, as the Warriors are near the Opelika 20 close to the midway point of the quarter. 

- And a third straight three-and-out for Opelika to start things off. 

- TOUCHDOWN THOMPSON. Trent Seaborn returns at quarterback, and on the first play of the second quarter, fires a 7-yard pass into the end zone to Trey Knight on third down. (Thompson, 13-0 | 11:54, 2nd) 

- Thompson faces a third down inside the Opelika 10 to start the second. Warriors had 203 yards of total offense in the opening quarter, while the Bulldogs were held to just 9 total yards. 

FIRST QUARTER

- Thompson quarterback Trent Seaborn, a junior who is committed to Alabama, is shaken up after taking a hit from an Opelika defender immediately after throwing a pass. He's able to get up but he's out of the game for the moment. 

- Thompson converts a third-and-short and are now at the Opelika 35 late in the period. 

- Opelika goes three-and-out for the second straight series and once again punts it right back to Thompson. 

- FIELD GOAL THOMPSON. Warriors get into Opelika territory again but end up settling for another field goal. Ethan Black gets his second field goal, this from 35 yards out. (Thompson, 6-0 | 5:10, 1st) 

- Thompson's defense forces a three-and-out on Opelika's opening possession, and the Bulldogs have to punt it away. Warriors now on their second series. 

- FIELD GOAL THOMPSON. Warriors had a TD taken away due to a penalty and have to settle for a field goal instead, with Ethan Black connecting from 27 yards out. (Thompson, 3-0 | 9:00, 1st) 

- Thompson already inside the Opelika 10 on the opening drive. 

- The opening kick sails into the end zone for a touchback. Thompson begins things at its own 20-yard line.

PREGAME

- Opelika wins the toss and defers to the second half. Thompson will be getting the ball to start things off. 

- Live from Birmingham, it’s Thompson - playing in its eighth straight 7A title game and seeking to repeat as state champs - facing Opelika, making its first-ever title game appearance.
