St. Henry had to finish the job.

The small-school football power from the town of St. Henry, Ohio, had pulled off the biggest win of the OHSAA high school season when they ended Marion Local's 76-game winning streak. That victory came in the Division VII regional final, meaning St. Henry needed to win two more games to secure a state title.

Mission accomplished.

The Redskins are state champs.

They took care of business in a D-VII title matchup with Hillsdale that kicked off Saturday morning, winning 37-3.

With it, the Midwest Athletic Conference, the powerhouse MAC, has another state title.

And with it, St. Henry has its first football state championship since 2006.

Charlie Werling, son of head coach Josh Werling, led the way.

Charlie ran 19 times for 178 yards and three touchdowns and also threw a touchdown to Will Speck. Speck ran for a score, as well, and had nine runs for 77 yards. Anderson Kramer led the defense with 14 tackles.

The Division VI championship game later on Saturday won't include the MAC. Coldwater went down in the state semifinal to Hopewell-Loudon, preventing a rematch there with Kirtland.

But the smallest division in Ohio high school football still belongs to the MAC. It's just not Marion Local this year. It's St. Henry, which earned this magnificent moment for itself.
