No state produces running backs quite like Texas. Earl Campbell. Adrian Peterson. Eric Dickerson. Cedric Benson. Billy Sims. Ken Hall. Thurman Thomas. LaDainian Tomlinson.

And now: Landen Williams-Callis.

A remarkable junior season has Williams-Callis (Richmond Randle, TX) on the verge of rewriting the Texas record books. That's no small feat given the names that came before him.

After bursting onto the national scene last year as a sophomore by powering Richmond Randle to an undefeated season and 5A state title, Williams-Callis elevated his game to another stratosphere in 2025. And he's not done yet.

Williams-Callis has generated more than 1,200 yards and at least 15 more touchdowns than he did the year before. And that was a sophomore year in which he gained more than 2,100 yards and scored 43 TDs, helping the Lions claim the UIL 5A Division II championship in the school’s third season to play varsity football.

As it turns out, that was merely an appetizer for a dominant junior season.

Entering the Texas 5A Division 2 state championship game, Williams-Callis has rushed for 3,370 yards on 292 carries, reaching the end zone 58 times.

He has scored a TD in every game, including six in three games, one of which was against Bastrop in the regional semifinal round, as Williams-Callis finished with 330 yards.

But he was far from done. He scored five TDs in each of the Lions’ next two playoff wins, the regional final against Iowa Colony and the state semifinal against Boerne.

Speaking of Iowa Colony, the Pioneers definitely had their fill of Williams-Callis. In a regular season game, he rushed for 342 yards and six TDs as Randle stormed back for a 49-42 win; then in the rematch for a regional championship, carried the ball 221 times for 31 times and five TDs in a 45-35 win.

Those two losses were the lone defeats for Iowa Colony in an otherwise very successful 12-2 campaign.

In the Lions’ five postseason wins thus far, Williams-Callis has rushed for 1,129 yards and 21 TDs.

He has a chance to boost those numbers even more - not to mention gaining even more hardware - as Randle goes for back-to-back 5A Division II championships this Saturday as the Lions take on South Oak Cliff at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

With 131 career rushing touchdowns, Williams-Callis is also ranked No. 2 in that category in the greater Houston area. The only player with more TDs was none other than his cousin, former Lamar Consolidated and Oregon State standout Jacquizz Rodgers, who had 136.

Regardless of Saturday’s outcome in the title game, Williams-Callis will be back for the Lions in what should be an anticipated senior season. Not to mention increased intrigue regarding what college he will end up going to, as he has received offers from the likes of Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Texas Tech and Alabama.

Congratulations to Landen Williams-Callis of Richmond Randle (TX), AllSportsPeople 2025 High School Football Offensive Player of the Year.
