Thursday’s title games will be the Division IV Non-Select, Division IV Select and Division III Select contests.
In Division IV Non-Select, Mangham takes on the top seed, Haynesville. The Dragons are seeking to win their first state title since 1956, although they were the runner-up for three straight years from 2013-15.
As for Haynesville, the Golden Tornado is one of the more successful programs in the state. They have won 17 state titles, the first coming in 1924 and the most recent coming in 2014. Haynesville was state runner-up each of the past two seasons.
Then in Division IV Select, Riverside Academy takes on Ascension Catholic. The Rebels are in the Prep Classic for the first time since winning state in 2016, while the Bulldogs are seeking their first title since 1992.
In the Division III Select title game, one of the top quarterbacks in the state will be showcased as Dunham faces Calvary Baptist.
Dunham is going for its first title since 2004, and the Tigers are led by junior quarterback Elijah Haven, who has thrown for at least 3,200 yards and 53 touchdowns and was recently named the Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year. Calvary Baptist is out to win its second state title in three seasons, which would be the fifth title overall for the Cavaliers.
Three more games take place on Friday, with the final two (both the Division I Non-Select and Select) taking place on Saturday.
