ARLINGTON, TEXAS - In the previous two times Grandview has reached a state title game, the Zebras won on both occasions.

Yoakum has also been in the state title game twice before this season, but the Bulldogs lost both.

Will that trend continue, or can Yoakum claim its first University Interscholastic League football championship? The answer will be given on Thursday afternoon, as the Zebras face the Bulldogs for the UIL 3A Division I championship at AT&T Stadium.

Grandview reached the title game in 2018 and again in 2019 and won both times. The Zebras have made it back to “Jerry World” with a 13-2 record, including riding a current nine-game win streak.

In the postseason, Grandview won three games by a touchdown or less, including a 49-48 win against Commerce in the regional semifinals and a 21-18 decision against Peaster in last week’s semifinal round.

Yoakum played for the title in 1952 and again in 2016, but the Bulldogs lost both times. They’re hoping the third time is the charm as they come in with a 13-2 record, having won seven straight ballgames entering Thursday.

In the playoffs, the Bulldogs scored 66 points in a bi-district round win against McGregor. To win the regional title, Yoakum edged out defending champion Columbus, 20-14, but in last week’s semifinal, the Bulldogs had no trouble getting past Llano, prevailing 71-27.

HALFTIME

- Yoakum rushed for 313 yards in the first half, and had 322 total. Jace Morales and X'Zavier Barnett have combined to rush for exactly 300 yards (Morales with 170; Barnett with 130) and have scored the Bulldogs' three TDs. Grandview had 148 total yards, 134 of those on the ground. 

SECOND QUARTER

- Pass toward the end zone falls incomplete, and Yoakum will go into the break still up by 17 points. 

- Yoakum still at the Grandview 37 with two seconds left in the half. 

- Grandview penalized for a late hit out of bounds with six seconds left, and Yoakum has the ball at the Zebras' 37.

- TOUCHDOWN GRANDVIEW. Zebras with a much-needed score, going 75 yards in 14 plays, ending with a 1-yard run from Bleu Hubbard as the Grandview band plays its fight song, which happens to be the Texas A&M "Aggie War Hymn." (Yoakum, 24-7 |:25, 2nd) 

- Grandview now has a first-and-goal at the 1 with 29 seconds on the clock. 

- Grandview has reached the red zone with 1:04 left in the half after a 22-yard keeper by quarterback Mason Landers. 

- Grandview near the Yoakum 40 as we approach the two-minute warning. 

- TOUCHDOWN YOAKUM. The Bulldogs are running wild here at Jerry World. SMU signee X'Zavier Barnett with his second TD on the day, a 59-yard dash to the house to finish off a 3-play, 69-yard drive. Barnett now has 130 yards on seven carries, and as a team, the Bulldogs have rushed for 297 yards. (Yoakum, 24-0 | 4:56, 2nd) 

- Yoakum forces Grandview to punt again and the Bulldogs have the ball once again as we are under six minutes remaining in the half. 

- TOUCHDOWN YOAKUM. Bulldogs go 80 yards in just six plays, and find the end zone again as Jace Morales takes a direct snap, finds an opening up the middle and races in untouched from 38 yards out. Morales already with 154 yards on 10 carries with that TD. (Yoakum, 17-0 | 7:41, 2nd) 

- A sack from Yoakum lineman Joaquin Varela sends Grandview backward, and the Zebras eventually punt it away. Bulldogs take over at their 20 up by 10 with 10:41 left in the half.

- Yoakum had 157 yards of total offense and scored on each of its two first-quarter possessions. Grandview had 72 yards of total offense, but had 20 before starting its current drive.

FIRST QUARTER

- Grandview gets inside the Yoakum 30 as the opening quarter concludes. 

- TOUCHDOWN YOAKUM. Bulldogs score again on their second series, this time as X'Zavier Barnett sprints in from 44 yards out. Yoakum went 81 yards in seven plays on that series. (Yoakum, 10-0 | 3:00, 1st) 

- Grandview gets into Yoakum territory, but on a third down, Bulldog defender Isaiah Lopez comes through and gets a sack. That forces a Zebras' punt, which lands just inside the Bulldog 20 near the halfway point of the quarter. 

- Kickoff goes into the end zone for a touchback, and Grandview will have its first offensive snap from its 25. 

- FIELD GOAL YOAKUM. Yoakum reaches the 1-yard line but a false start penalty backs up the Bulldogs, and they eventually stall on the drive. Alexis Hernandez comes on to kick a 21-yard field goal. (Yoakum, 3-0 | 9:43, 1st) 

- Jace Morales takes the handoff on Yoakum's first two plays and produces a 40-yard run and then a 27-yard run down to the Grandview 8. 

- Short kickoff by Grandview, and it's caught by a Yoakum player while going out of bounds at the Bulldogs' 25.

PREGAME

- Grandview wins the toss and defers to the second half. Yoakum to get the ball to start things off. 

- Grandview is the visiting team in this one. The Zebras are wearing white helmets, white jerseys and black pants. Yoakum is the home squad, and the Bulldogs have white helmets, blue jerseys and blue pants.
