ARLINGTON, TEXAS - Duncanville and Galena Park North Shore are quite familiar with one another around this time of year.
For the sixth time in the past eight seasons, these elite Texas programs - one from the Dallas metropolitan area and the other from the Houston metro - collide for a University Interscholastic League state championship. The latest edition of the Panthers and the Mustangs takes place Saturday afternoon at AT&T Stadium for the 6A Division I championship

The first time these two superpowers met for a state championship was in 2018, when North Shore claimed a 41-36 win after a dramatic Hail Mary pass at the end of the game.

North Shore then beat the Panthers the following season, 2019, and again in 2021.
But the Panthers got the upper hand in 2022 and again in 2023 with a 49-33 win. Neither team made it to Arlington last season, but both North Shore and Duncanville are back in “Jerry World” with a vengeance.
Duncanville enters Saturday’s game at 12-1 overall, with its lone defeat coming by a single point against Waxahachie in the Panthers’ second game. But the Panthers avenged that defeat to Waxahachie with a 35-27 win two weeks ago in the regional finals; then in last week’s semifinals, Duncanville dominated a previously undefeated Allen squad, 31-9.
This will be the seventh time Duncanville is in the state title game. Along with the titles won in 2022 and again in 2023, the Panthers won in their first-ever championship game appearance, 1998.
North Shore enters Saturday’s game at 13-2. The Mustangs lost in the season opener to South Oak Cliff, which earlier on Saturday captured the 5A Division II championship, and then lost in the regular season finale to Humble Summer Creek.
But in the postseason, the Mustangs have leveled up. They have won all five playoff games by an average margin of 25 points, including a 46-29 win against previously undefeated Dickinson in the regional finals and then a 28-6 win last week in the semifinals against Lake Travis, which also came in undefeated.
The Mustangs will be making their ninth appearance in a state championship game, and will be seeking their sixth championship.

HALFTIME
- For the second time in as many days here at UIL State, we have a scoreless first half. The Stephenville-Kilgore 4A Division I title game on Friday was scoreless at halftime before Stephenville eked out a 10-0 win.
SECOND QUARTER
- North Shore takes a knee to end the half. The Mustangs will be getting the ball to start the second half.
- High snap on the punt but Duncanville able to get it off. Ball lands at the North Shore 32 with nine seconds left until intermission.
- North Shore gets the stop on third down and the Mustangs call their second time out with 22 seconds left. Punting situation coming up.
- Another third down for Duncanville, but the Panthers commit back-to-back delay of game penalties, and now has a third-and-16 with 29 seconds left.
- High throw from J'Coryon Rivers, but Emmanuel Ellison elevates high in the air to make the grab on third down, giving Duncanville a first down near its 45 as the final minute of the half approaches.
- Duncanville takes its final time out of the first half as the Panthers face a third-and-5 at its own 35 with 1:21 remaining.
- North Shore forced an incomplete pass on third down, but the Mustangs were just called for holding. That gives Duncanville an automatic first down at its 30 as we've reached the two-minute warning.
- Trenton Yancey plows forward for a first down on a third-down direct snap. Duncanville now near the North Shore 20 with less than three minutes to go in the half.
- Once again, Duncanville's defense comes up huge and a promising North Shore drive ends in yet another punt. Mustangs kick it away for the fourth time today. The ball does land at the Duncanville 3 with 3:46 left in the opening half.
- North Shore QB Kaleb Maryland completes a pass on third-and-long, and the Mustangs have a first down near midfield with close to six minutes left. Then Maryland throws another pass, and North Shore is close to Duncanville's 40 with another first down.
- Duncanville comes up short of first down as Trenton Yancey takes the direct snap and sweeps around the left side, but he's ruled inches short. North Shore takes over.
- Duncanville faces a fourth-and-4 from the North Shore 19 and the Panthers go for it. But before that, the Panthers take a time out, their second of the half.
- A deep throw from Panther QB J'Coryon Rivers - and receiver Trenton Yancey is there for a great catch despite being heavily guarded by a North Shore defender. Play goes for 42 yards down to the Mustang 37.
- Through one quarter of play, Duncanville has 70 yards of total offense, while North Shore has 55. There were five combined punts and one turnover as well.
FIRST QUARTER

- North Shore QB Kaleb Maryland completes a 20-yard pass to receiver Jaylen Bocard, and the Mustangs have a first down at Duncanville's 40.
- One first down but nothing else for Duncanville, and the Panthers will punt. Since the North Shore interception on the opening drive, it's been nothing but punts. Mustangs get the ball near their 40 with about three minutes to go in the quarter.
- North Shore gets a first down and makes it very close to midfield before Duncanville's defense stiffens and forces the Mustangs to punt for the second time today. Panthers take over at their 20 with 5:13 remaining in the period.
- Duncanville can't do anything on offense and has to punt it back to North Shore. The Mustangs start inside their own 20.
- North Shore goes three-and-out on its first series and has to punt. Duncanville fair catches it just inside the midfield stripe, and the Panthers will have great field position with nearly three minutes elapsed into the contest.
- INTERCEPTION NORTH SHORE. Junior defensive back Tony Guillory is right there to pick off a pass, denying Duncanville's scoring opportunity, and now the Mustangs take the ball for the first time at their own 16.
Picked by Guillory!
