In recent years, Choctaw (Oklahoma) has been a thorn in Sand Springs’ side.

The Yellowjackets ended the Sandites’ playoff run each of the past three seasons, the latest in 2024 when Choctaw rallied from a 21-6 deficit to post a 31-21 win in the Class 6A-II semifinals. Choctaw went on to capture the 6A-II title.

Friday night, the Sandites seek to avenge those defeats to the Yellowjackets, with the rematch now the 6A-II championship game. It takes place at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.

When Choctaw (9-4) defeated Muskogee for the 6A-II title last season, it was the Yellowjackets’ first championship since 1960. Now, they seek to become the first 6A-II repeat champion since Bixby won four straight from 2018-21 before moving up to 6A-I.

Sand Springs (10-2) now has the title drought to end. The Sandites haven’t won the gold ball since winning their only one in 1966. This is their first title game since falling to Bixby in 2015.
