Mount Enterprise’s Kaegan Ash, El Paso Franklin’s Ernie Powers and Ozona’s Christian Villarreal. Those three outstanding running backs pop up in our top high school football performers nearly every week. The yardage-devouring triumvirate outdid itself this past week.
Ash, Powers and Villarreal are all in the top 10 in rushing yards for the season in the nation. Powers is second with 3,063 yards and 49 touchdowns. Villarreal is third with 2,858 yards and 43 touchdowns. Ash is ninth with 2,185 yards and 37 touchdowns.
The national leader, Myles McLaughlin of Knox (IN) has 3,603 yards and 55 touchdowns. He has played in one more game than Powers and two more than Villarreal and Ash.
In Week 9, the Texas trio combined for 1,401 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns. Ash also had five successful two-point conversions, while Villarreal had four.
Including those three players, we narrowed down 25 of the biggest and brightest stars in the Lone Star State, including some familiar names from previous weeks in AllSportsPeople top Texas high school football performers of the week.

Chuck Cox
Kaegan Ash, Mount Enterprise: Ash saved his biggest game of the season to lead the Wildcats to a huge 82-60 District 11-2A Division II win over previously unbeaten Lovelady. On offense, Ash rushed for 495 yards and seven touchdowns on 34 carries (14.6 yards per carry), was 2-of-3 passing for 15 yards and successfully made five two-point conversions. On defense, he registered 11 tackles, including a half-sack. The Texas Tech commit eclipsed 9,000 career rushing yards in the big win.
Riley Bingham, Kennedale: The senior running back was a force of nature for the Wildcats in their 48-21 District 6-4A Division I win over Carrollton Ranchview. Bingham rushed for 319 yards and six touchdowns on 32 carries. If that wasn’t impressive enough, he also had 102 yards in kickoff returns and made two interceptions and six solo tackles on defense. Have a game, Riley Bingham.
Gavin Black, Odessa Permian: Black came up big for Mojo in a wild 51-48 District 2-6A rivalry win over Midland Legacy. The senior rushed for 320 yards and four touchdowns on 38 carries (8.4 yards per carry). Permian has won seven straight games since losing its season opener against Plano. The Panthers and Rebels have won a combined nine state football titles.
Brady Brock, Lewisville Hebron: The junior quarterback was in the zone for the Hawks although they lost to Lewisville, 45-43, in double overtime. Brock was 24-of-37 for 332 yards and five touchdowns without an interception in the District 5-6A contest.
Khylan Davis, Fort Bend Hightower: Davis was electrifying in leading the Hurricanes to a 63-7 District 21-6A thumping of Fort Bend Austin. The junior quarterback went 16-of-21 for 223 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 105 yards and three more scores on eight attempts.

Carter Dominguez, Gregory-Portland: Dominguez was lethal with his arm and his legs in leading the Wildcats to a 60-0 District 14-5A Division II trouncing of Corpus Christi Carroll. The junior signal-caller was 13-of-20 for 178 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 58 yards and five touchdowns on 13 carries.
Jayden Herrera, Corpus Christi Miller: Another South Texas quarterback who had a monster game, Herrera broke the school record for touchdown passes in a game as he threw nine in a 70-18 District 14-5A Division II blowout win over Corpus Christi King. Herrera, a freshman, was 16-of-23 passing for 321 yards. Gregory-Portland’s Dominguez and Herrera square off on Friday night.
Kaine Hill, Springtown: The Porcupines continue to fly under the radar while racking up wins in the 2025 season. Hill was an efficient 15-of-18 passing for 259 yards and six touchdowns in leading Springtown to a 62-0 District 5-4A Division I win over Fort Worth Western Hills. The Porcupines are 9-0 overall and 5-0 in district play.
Brett Holloway, Melissa: Like Springtown, Melissa is not getting enough attention for its big season. Since losing the opener to Don Bosco Prep (NJ), the Cards have won six straight games, including last week’s 54-21 District 4-5A Division II victory over Frisco Emerson. Holloway was a near-perfect 13-of-14 passing for 378 yards and seven touchdowns and no interceptions in the victory.
Kiante Ingram, North Crowley: The defending Class 6A Division I state champs rolled to another huge win behind a big night from Ingram. The junior RB1 tallied 213 yards and four touchdowns in a 69-17 District 4-6A whipping of Saginaw Boswell. The Panthers have won four straight games by 45 points or more.
Khelvy Jefferson, West Orange-Stark: Jefferson crossed the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the season by tallying 272 yards and four touchdowns on 22 carries (12.4 yards per carry) in a 33-30 District 9-4A Division II win over Silsbee.
Trot Jordan, Stephenville: Jordan, a junior quarterback, went 14-of-18 for 276 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions and rushed for 44 yards to lead the undefeated Yellow Jackets to a 49-7 District 4-4A Division I win over Lampasas. Jordan has 24 touchdowns and just one interception this season.
Jorge Luna, Laredo United: Luna was big-time for the Longhorns in their 51-28 District 30-6A win over Eagle Pass. Luna went 26-of-33 for 462 yards and seven touchdowns, including four to Colt Lozano. Luna also rushed for 33 yards on six carries and caught one pass for four yards, giving him 499 total yards. Not a bad night’s work.

Luke McBride, Lake Travis: McBride was 23-of-34 for 264 yards and three touchdowns and no interceptions in a big 31-10 District 26-6A rivalry road victory over Austin Westlake. McBride also rushed for 13 yards on six carries to help the Cavs remain undefeated. Lake Travis had lost six straight games to Westlake in the Battle of the Lakes rivalry, including twice in the fourth round of the last two postseasons.
Kaiden McCauley, Keller: The sophomore linebacker was a machine for the Indians in their thrilling 37-36 District 4-6A win over Keller Timber Creek. McCauley recorded 16 tackles, including nine solo, five tackles for loss and an interception he returned for a touchdown.
Cam Newton, Prosper Walnut Grove: Newton continued his massive senior season by piling up 251 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 35 carries. He also had three receptions to help lead the Wildcats to a big 29-26 victory over Lucas Lovejoy. Walnut Grove is undefeated heading into this week’s District 4-5A Division II showdown with Melissa (6-1, 6-0).
Shaan Patel, Fulshear: Patel led a potent offensive attack by the Chargers as they knocked off George Ranch, 62-42, in District 20-6A play. The senior QB1 was 27-of-46 for 455 yards and seven touchdowns and no picks. Fulshear improved to 6-3 with the victory.
Ernie Powers, El Paso Franklin: “Super” Powers was at it again. In a 70-54 District 1-6A victory over El Paso Eastlake, the senior rushed for an incredible 526 yards and eight touchdowns on 34 carries. He is averaging a ridiculous 340.3 rushing yards per game. Powers is one touchdown shy of 50 for the season. It’s a pretty safe bet he will get there in the season finale against El Paso Pebble Hills on Nov. 6.

Angelo Renda, Southlake Carroll: Renda had an unusual game in a 49-0 District 4-6A win over Hurst L.D. Bell because he threw for 380 yards on 23-of-29 passing but did not throw a touchdown. The Pittsburgh commit also rushed for 82 yards and two touchdowns on five carries to help the Dragons remain undefeated.
Joshua Shaw, Allen: Shaw came up huge for the Eagles in the biggest game in the state last week. Shaw made three tackles, including two for loss, and had four quarterback hurries, a sack and a pass breakup in a 31-30 District 6-6A road win over previously undefeated Prosper. Allen is 8-0 heading into Friday’s game against McKinney Boyd. The Prosper game was played in the early afternoon because of threatening weather moving into the Dallas/Fort Worth area last Friday night.
Alex Teten, Dublin: Teten helped the Lions pick up their first win of the season, a resounding 57-7 District 5-3A Division II win over Eastland. The senior signal-caller was 19-of-24 for 371 yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions. Teten also had two carries for seven yards.
Lincoln Tubbs, Aledo: The senior dual-threat quarterback had a monster game in a 72-10 District 3-5A Division I thumping of Richland. Tubbs was 12-of-19 passing for 270 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions. He also rushed for 138 yards and another score on 12 carries for the undefeated Bearcats.
Jaden Vaughn, Cy-Fair: Vaughn did not let opportunity pass him by in his team’s 52-32 District 17-6A win over Cypress Creek. The senior cornerback and Northwestern commit returned three kickoffs for 154 yards, including a 99-yard touchdown, to average 51.3 yards per return. He also returned a punt for an 87-yard touchdown for a total of 241 return yards.

Christian Villarreal, Ozona: Villarreal keeps on running, Ozona keeps on winning. Last week, the senior amassed 380 yards and seven touchdowns on 20 carries (19.0 yards per carry) in a 58-18 District 3-2A Division I win over Colorado City. The Lions are 8-0 heading into Friday’s game at Forsan.
Garrett Winkler, Teague: The senior signal-caller led the Lions to a huge 42-20 District 9-3A Division I upset win over previously undefeated Palestine Westwood. Winkler went 16-of-23 for 320 yards with five touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed for 18 yards on four carries.
