For an incredibly long time, Tiger Woods was the unquestioned best golfer on the planet.

These days, that honor belongs to Scottie Scheffler.

But at the Ryder Cup, they have the same problem.

Tiger isn't on Team USA anymore, but the one flaw on his golfing legacy is how he played in pairings at the Ryder Cup.

Woods had just a 32.1 winning percentage in foursome matches, and 33.3% in four-ball matches.

Scheffler, after losing Friday morning, is now 0-3 in foursome matches. His partnership with Russell Henley at Bethpage Black didn't get the job done.

And in four-ball, Scheffler is 1-0-2, so not spotless, either, but better.

Tiger made up for it in singles matches, which he won at a 62.5% rate. Scheffler has a win and a tie in singles matches entering this year's tournament.

There were all sorts of explanations over the years for why Tiger couldn't win with a partner. They got as detailed as the type of golf ball being used, and there are always questions about simple human chemistry between the pairing.

There will start to be curiosities about Scheffler's performances in his partnerships, too.

It's not particularly useful for Team USA to enter the Ryder Cup with the best player if the best player can't make a difference until singles play.

Scheffler has time to figure out what it often seemed Tiger never could. But Team USA will need him to do so in a hurry.
