McIlroy was flanked by fans on the 18th hole for his victory, one that he said he'll remember for a "long, long time" — it was his 21st PGA Tour victory, breaking a tie with Greg Norman, among others.

Here's how much McIlroy made, and how much he's earned in his career:

RBC Canadian Open 2022 prize money

The total purse for the 2022 Canadian Open sits at $8.7 million. That money is a bit less than some of the higher-end tournaments and golf majors, but still a hefty sum nonetheless.

How much money does the winner get?

Rory McIlroy, the tournament winner, took home a total of $1,556,000 for his first-place victory. In 2019, McIlroy took home the lion's share, totaling $1,368,000.

Tony Finau, the sole second-place winner, earned $948,000. Justin Thomas also earned a nice payday, with $600,300 for finishing in third place.

Rory McIlroy career earnings

In total, McIlroy has earned a grand total of $62,474,495 in his career, per Spotrac.

He's already earned over $4 million in the 2021-22 PGA Tour season, which includes checks for two first-place finishes.
