Tom Brady is opening up about his personal life.
Brady has won seven Super Bowls and retired from the league officially in 2023. However, as he recalls his last season in the NFL -- he was the quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the time after spending 20 seasons with the New England Patriots -- he had a lot more on his plate than in previous seasons.
The NFL icon was asked to reflect on The Herd, his last season in the league, and the challenges he faced as rumors about the potential retirement of veteran Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers continue to loom.
"My last season was tough. I was going through a lot of just a personal family issue, and it was a challenge, and it was a very... It just took a lot out of me in terms of my ability to continue to play," Brady admitted on The Herd.
Brady revealed that the decision to officially retire -- for real this time -- had to do with wanting to be more present with his children. The former Super Bowl-winning quarterback has son, Jack, with his ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan, and a son, Benjamin, and a daughter, Vivian, with ex-wife Gisele Bündchen.
"And I had 23 years of it, so I didn't feel like I was missing anything retiring," Brady continued. "I felt like, okay, this is time. I always had a goal, 45. I was 45 years old. I wanted to spend time with my kids. I felt like, "okay, Now it's time for me to be at all my kids' games. They've been enough of their dad's games."
Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen divorce
During his last season in the NFL, Brady was going through a divorce with Bündchen. The couple was married for 13 years and share two children together. At the time, Brady took to his Instagram Story to share the news.
“We arrived at this decision amicably and with gratitude for the time we spent together. We are blessed with beautiful and wonderful children who will continue to be the center of our world in every way. We will continue to work together as parents to always ensure they receive the love and attention they deserve,” Brady wrote on his Instagram Story. “We arrived at this decision to end our marriage after much consideration.”
Bündchen echoed the sentiment on her own social media account, writing, "With much gratitude for our time together, Tom and I have amicably finalized our divorce. My priority has always been and will continue to be our children whom I love with all my heart. We will continue co-parenting to give them the love, care and attention they greatly deserve,” she wrote. “The decision to end a marriage is never easy but we have grown apart and while it is, of course, difficult to go through something like this, I feel blessed for the time we had together and only wish the best for Tom always.”
The two have since moved on from those 2022 statements. Bündchen is now married to Joaquim Valente, with whom she welcomed a child with in February 2025. The couple got married in December 2025.
As for Brady, he was romantically linked to Irina Shayk after his divorce with Bündchen and has recently fueled dating rumors with social media influencer Alix Earle.
