Sydney Sweeney is taking her role as Christy Martin on the big screen to the cover of Sports Illustrated.
Sweeney stuns on the latest cover of SI alongside Christy Martin herself. The actress is sitting down in a white plunge tank top with silver boxing shorts, with one side of them being having an American Eagle. On the waistband in large pink letters reads "CHRISTY" in honor of the legendary boxer Christy Martin, whom she portrayed in the film, Christy.
On the cover, Martin stands behind Sweeney, wearing a similar white tank top with her arm above the actress.
The Euphoria actress shared the cover on her Instagram page with a touching caption about the boxer's strength.
"For 20 years, Christy Martin was one of the strongest women in the world inside the ring," Sweeney wrote. "But at home, she was abused and nearly killed by the man who claimed to love her."
Sweeney continued: "Her story isn’t just about boxing. It’s about identity, survival, and the unimaginable strength it takes to reclaim your life after someone has taken everything from you."
The actress went on to speak about domestic violence, which Martin experienced from her ex-husband
"In the United States, about 20 people are physically abused by an intimate partner every single minute. And that’s why this story matters," Sweeney added.
The actress concluded her message by advocating for survivors and the impact she wishes viewers will have when watching the film. "So like Christy herself, we’re not going anywhere. We’re here to tell the truth. We’re here to stand with survivors. And if this film helps even one person feel seen, understood, or less alone, then we’ve done something that matters. Thank you for watching. Thank you for sharing. I hope Christy stays with you long after the credits roll. It has for me."
Alongside Sweeney, Christy stars Merritt Wever, Katy O’Brian, Ethan Embry, Jess Gabor, Chad Coleman, Bryan Hibbard, Tony Cavalero, and Gilbert Cruz.
Christy premiered last month in theaters.
