Sydney Sweeney is getting old Hollywood comparisons from her latest photoshoot.
Sweeney has been booked and busy throughout 2025, starring in Christy — a biopic about boxer Christy Martin, The Housemaid alongside Amanda Seyfried, the indie film Americana, the thriller Echo Valley with Julianne Moore, and the historical thriller Eden, which features Jude Law. She is now making headlines for her ode to old Hollywood glam, likening herself to Marilyn Monroe.
The Euphoria actress was featured in a spot on W Magazine’s Best Performances issue, which was published on Tuesday, January 6. She was dressed in nothing but metallic gold paint that completely covered her face and body, with her blonde hair styled in retro curls.
In her feature, she told the publication how she was able to film the tougher scenes, especially in films like Christy, where domestic violence is part of the boxer's story.
"I've always trained myself to separate as much as I can from my characters and not to put my own thoughts or memories into a scene," she explained. "It allows me to know that a character is the one experiencing those moments, feelings, and scenarios—I'm not. When they call 'Cut,' I’m able to just jump out of it and be back to Syd."
She also shared how she had to mentally prepare for the role, but that her body also went through a transformation where she gained 30 pounds to portray the boxer. Similar to how she filmed the harder scenes, she did not dwell on the parts she couldn't change.
"I did physically change for it, so I was still coming home as Christy, in a sense," she continued. "But the emotions, fights, and traumas that she went through, I tried not to bring those home with me."
The Housemaid was another film Sweeney starred in this year that got a lot of momentum. The actress explained that not only did she portray Millie Calloway but that she had a hand in production.
"I was a huge fan of the book," Sweeney said. "The moment I opened the first page, I did not put it down until I finished. I knew there was a script circulating, and I went after it. I came onboard and worked with Lionsgate to package the film. I love being able to be part of building the entire world, not just my actor’s world. It’s like a giant puzzle that I get to put together. And I’m obsessed with Amanda [Seyfried]. She’s my spirit animal. She’s made me feel more comfortable just being myself."
Christy is available to rent or buy via Apple TV or Amazon Prime. The Housemaid is still in theaters and is available online to rent or buy.
