There might be another reason why Kevin Durant is unguardable this season...his hygiene routine.
The Houston Rockets power forward was a guest on his teammate Fred VanVleet’s Unguarded podcast when KD spoke about not making haircuts, putting on lotion, and showering every day as a priority.
“For what? Why get cuts? Why? Why? Why lotion my… Why lotion? I don’t lotion my body like that. I might lotion my hands if they a little dry, but I don’t,” KD shared.
VanVleet told KD that he noticed he sometimes has a clean shape-up, but KD shared that it's usually do to convenience and that it makes him less stressed.
“What [makes] me get a cut, for real, is when I’m in my room playing the game and my homies like, ‘Yeah, we got the barber on the way,’” he said. “Like, ‘All right, f**k it. If y’all getting a cut, I go get one, too…’ I ain’t calling them myself.”
“I really used to care at some point about like, ‘Man, I need to get a cut this week.’ Then after a while, I was like, I’m way more relaxed when I’m just not giving a f**k,” he added. “So I just stop getting cuts, stop lotioning… I take showers.”
After garnering a few laughs from VanVleet, he clarified that he does, in fact, shower but will sometimes skip a day or two.
“I shower, I shower, I shower… but I might go a day without, two days,” adding he will “ go musty for a day or two… I just like to feel close to like, the trenches like that.”
Regardless if fans agree with KD's grooming habits, it seems to be working. In July, the NBA champion was involved in the first-of-its-kind seven-team trade. During the trade, it involved 13 players and seven draft picks. Following the trade, he admitted he was a little hurt but then immediately locked in.
"Initially, I was a little upset because I felt like we built a solid relationship, me and the Phoenix Suns," Durant said back in September per AZ Central. "And to hear that from a different party was kind of upsetting, but that's just the name of the game. So I got over that quickly and was trying to figure out what the next steps were."
KD has been adjusting to the Houston Rockets as he has been averaging 25.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.0 steals, 1.0 blocks, and officially became the eighth player in NBA history to score 31,000 points, according to ESPN.
