A viral post about Fernando Mendoza's stance on dating has resurfaced following his victory in the National Championship.
The Indiana Hoosiers faced the Miami Hurricanes in the National Championship game last week where Mendoza was at the helm of the Hoosiers as the quarterback. The Hoosiers won their first National Championship against the Hurricanes 21-27, and now that all eyes are on Mendoza, he is sharing more about his personal life.
Mendoza is currently single, and it doesn't seem as though that is going to change anytime soon. In a 2024 clip posted by TonyBandz, Mendoza said in order for him to be successful and make his goal of being in the NFL, he would have to limit all distractions, including dating.
"Especially with the girls, it can be very distracting," Mendoza said in the clip. "You might find your first love in college, and stuff like that, but...I'm going to give everything my all, so if I have a girlfriend, I'm going to give her my all."
Mendoza added that if he had a girlfriend, then he wouldn't be able to study the game and train the way he intended to make his goals.
"That means, I'm gonna go back from 6 to 9 [p.m.] Just to hang out with her, maybe get dinner or something, rather than maybe picking up dinner on the way back from class and watching extra film for the game week."
Fernando Mendoza declares for 2026 NFL Draft
It seems as though Mendoza's determination not only led the Hoosiers to their first franchise win but also is paving the way for his future. Following the Hoosier's victory, Mendoza declared for the NFL Draft.
"Let's get to work," Mendoza wrote on his Instagram account. "I'm humbled to announce that I am officially declaring for the 2026 NFL Draft!"
The 2026 NFL Draft is set to take place from April 23-25, and Mendoza could become the third NFL prospect to be the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft after winning the Heisman Trophy and leading their college team to a National Championship win. Cam Newton led Auburn to a National Championship win, won the Heisman, and then was the No. 1 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, where he was selected by the Carolina Panthers. Following Newton, Joe Burrow also won the Heisman and then led LSU to a National Championship win and was later selected No. 1 by the Cincinnati Bengals.
