Nina Dobrev and Shaun White have decided that their futures don't align.
The couple made headlines this week when they reportedly called off their engagement after five years of dating. According to a source per The Daily Mail, White wanted to start a family and Dobrev wants to focus on her career.
“Shaun is retired and has had his last Olympics; he was very ready for marriage and kids and all that comes from that,” the insider explained. White's last competition was at the Beijing 2022 Winter Games. He finished fourth in the men’s halfpipe event.
“He was gearing up to be a father and wanting that life,” they continued. “As much as they had the same ideals and wanted to enjoy the same ride, they naturally couldn’t come together on a common goal and that was the strain on their relationship.”
The source alluded that both White and Dobrev were actively focused on their careers.
“Nina was on board but also very interested in seeing where her acting career was going to go, as that was and is very important to her,” the source noted. As for White, he was looking at his future career after snowboarding and was looking into entrepreneurship.
News of their relationship ending added extra shock value since the former couple were seen running errands at the end of last month. However, the insider claimed that they were just falling into old habits and “they just kept living day in and day out and not growing as a couple.”
According to the insider, neither one nor the other was to "blame" for what the relationship amounted to at this point.
“Yes, there was love there, they had an incredible time with each other, but since they weren’t nurturing what they had and growing it into something more, the most logical thing to do was to break up before they ended up hating each other or entering into a loveless marriage,” the source said.
“They were smart enough to get out now while they still are young and while they still can move on from each other without any baggage.”
The couple met originally back in 2012, but didn't reconnect until 2019 when they were booked for the same speaking event. They went Instagram official with their relationship in 2020.
As of this writing, neither parties has spoken out about the alleged split.
