Are Nina Dobrev and Zac Efron an item?
After news broke that Dobrev and Shaun White ended their engagement, the actress was seen socializing on a yacht with Keleigh Teller, Miles Teller, Chace Crawford, Kelsey Merritt, and Zac Efron. Photos of Dobrev and Efron went viral with the two conversing throughout the hangout with fans wondering if the two are more than just friends.
Before you start making that fan fiction chapter, the Seventeen Again actor and Vampire Diaries actress are reportedly not in a romantic relationship and just friends, a source tells Us Weekly.
“Nina and Zac are not dating and have been good friends for over a decade,” the source told the outlet. “Their friends always joke that they should date, but that is not what is going on. They have been there for each other through many phases of life and have always had each other’s back.”
While some shots between the two speculated their could be a love interest in the future, its likely because the two have a longstanding friendship and that the actress “has been leaning on her family and friends recently” amid the ending of her five-year relationship with the professional snowboarder.
“[She] has truly felt a lot of love and support,” the source added. “Everyone has been lifting her spirits and she has been in a better place after taking some time away following her split from Shaun.”
Why did Shaun White and Nina Dobrev end their relationship?
News of their split made headlines earlier this month, which shocked fans, given that the two were seen together holding hands at a farmers market in Los Angeles. Only a week later, on Sept. 11, news broke that the two would be ending their engagement after five years together.
White proposed to Dobrev in November 2024, and they reportedly decided to go their separate ways after what they wanted in the near future did not align.
“Shaun is retired and has had his last Olympics; he was very ready for marriage and kids and all that comes from that,” the insider explained to the Daily Mail. White's last competition was at the Beijing 2022 Winter Games. He finished fourth in the men’s halfpipe event.
“He was gearing up to be a father and wanting that life,” they continued. “As much as they had the same ideals and wanted to enjoy the same ride, they naturally couldn’t come together on a common goal, and that was the strain on their relationship.”
The source alluded that both White and Dobrev were actively focused on their careers.
“Nina was on board but also very interested in seeing where her acting career was going to go, as that was and is very important to her,” the source noted. As for White, he was looking at his future career after snowboarding and was looking into entrepreneurship.
News of their relationship ending added extra shock value since the former couple were seen running errands at the end of last month. However, the insider claimed that they were just falling into old habits and “they just kept living day in and day out and not growing as a couple.”
Neither Dobrev nor White has spoken out about their relationship amid the split.
