Johnny Gaudreau's wife, Meredith  Gaudreau, is remembering her late husband.

"I have the best husband," Meredith wrote in an emotional tribute on her Instagram Stories on Friday Aug. 29. "One year closer to seeing you again and being with you forever. Forever for real."

"8/29 is a reminder of what forever means to me," Meredith wrote. "I love you."

Johnny and his brother Matthew Gaudreau were hit by an alleged drunken driver while riding their bikes last year. The brothers were in New Jersey for their sister Katie Gaudreau's wedding.

Meredith Gaudreau shares how she found out about Johnny's death

At the time of Johnny's death, she was a few weeks pregnant with their third child. She gave birth to their son in April.

"Our third baby is here! 4/1/25 Another baby boy," Meredith wrote in the caption.

She added that he honored her husband via the newborn's middle name as well as has other similarities to his late father. "Carter Michael Gaudreau - same middle name as his daddy.
8lb 3 ounces, 20.5 inches - exact same as his daddy. He looks exactly like his daddy too."

She concluded: "I love you so much my baby! We are going to have so much fun. I can’t wait to give you the best life, my special boy forever. John, thank you for giving me our beautiful family. We love u, Daddy and miss you so much."

She shared how she found out about Johnny's death in an essay for The Player's Tribune back June.

“I walked up the front porch and learned the absolute worst had happened and that it was both of you,” she wrote, referring to Johnny's brother Matthew. "There aren’t any words to go here."

The news was earth-shattering and she recalled how much fun they had together as a family just a few weeks prior.

“I was in shock,” she recalled. “I was keeled over for days sick to my stomach. It’s completely indescribable. The only person who can relate to me is my own sister-in-law. I see her and my heart breaks for her. I’m sick for her. We had just celebrated their gender reveal. We were all just down the shore together and had so much fun. Matty made me laugh so much that weekend.”

She went on to share how much she misses Johnny and Matthew following the tragedy.

"I couldn’t stand up. I was awake and having nightmares. Thinking of you in that moment. Thinking of Matty. It’s just the worst thing I could have ever imagined. And in an instant, I missed you more than I knew was possible. And I haven’t stopped missing you since. That feeling never goes away. I’m so sorry. I love you so much. I miss you every second of every day. I miss you more and more every day as well. My love grows deeper for you each day too.”

According to a profile with The Athletic, she is honoring Johnny and Matthew with her children and her sister-in-law, Madeline Gaudreau.
