Why Conor McGregor compared himself to Jesus when explaining his decision to wed Dee Devlin after 18 years of dating image

Conor McGregor has used a Jesus Christ comparison to announce his marriage to his longtime partner, Dee Devlin

The UFC fighter revealed the news in an emotional social media post on Sunday, Jan. 11.

McGregor tied the knot with Devlin - the mother of his four children (Conor Jr., Croía, Rían, and Mack) - at a Vatican City church on December 12. While he didn't explain what ultimately pushed him down the aisle after 18 years of dating, McGregor made it clear that he has no doubts about his decision to take himself off of the singles market.

Along with several photos from the magical day, McGregor shared a series of details he says pointed to divine timing.

"I married the love of my life, Dee, on the 12th of the 12th at exactly 12:12pm. We wed in the Chapel of Santo Stefano degli Abissini — the Vatican’s oldest church. ⛪️," he wrote. "The date was precisely 151 days after my birthday."

That number, the UFC fighter explained, carries special meaning.

"Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ — His name adds up to 151 in gematria. As does my own," he gushed. "These divine alignments, the wedding on 12/12 at exactly 12:12pm in the Vatican’s oldest church, exactly 151 days after my birthday, tying into the numerology of my name matching that of Jesus Christ, and even the connection to Psalm 151 (a powerful, personal testament of David’s journey and victory through faith) are unmistakable signs of divine orchestration that I had no idea about," McGregor continued.

McGregor didn't request a specific time for the ceremony, and said the Vatican even moved it up at the last minute, which he now views as yet another holy sign.

In the end, the fighter says he believes all of it confirmed that God gave him his blessing, and the timing was perfect.

It hasn't been all smooth sailing for Conor McGregor and Dee Devlin

Devlin and McGregor met in a Dublin nightclub in 2008 before he became a well-known fighter.

While it's great news that the pair seem to be in a solid place these days, it hasn't always been sunshine and rainbows. Over the summer, rumors of a split started circulating after McGregor was spotted kissing a mystery woman out in public.

The UFC superstar came under fire after pictures went viral showing him getting handsy with the brunette on a Florida beach.

In one photo, MGregor and the woman, clad in a revealing bikini, shared a beach chair together. The now married UFC star was seen with one arm draped over her leg, as the pair shared a kiss on the lips. Another showed the woman leaning back against McGregor on a beach chair with one of her arms wrapped around his neck.

That all seems to be water under the bridge now, as the two seem happier than ever.
