Before Donovan Mitchell got down on one knee, he attempted to slide in his now-fiancée's DM.
In a conversation with Complex, the Grammy-winning singer shared that the two originally met at a "celebrity-type of event" before the Cleveland Cavaliers star reached out.
"He had known of me years before [we met] because Bel-Air had done a collab with his shoe line, so he’d kind of seen the show before it came out, and he was like, ‘Who that?’ And he said he hit me up on Instagram," Coco recalled. "I ain’t see it though."
The singer added that it was seemingly a blessing in disguise because Mitchell's attempt wouldn't have worked on her, noting that the NBA star sent her "something with a red heart.”
“I’m like, ‘Oh, good, that wouldn’t have worked anyway. I don’t want no heart, I don’t know you,’” Coco said adding that they were destined to get together at the right time.
“That’s how you know it’s above us. It’s God," she said. "We’re meant to be.”
The couple began dating in 2023 and announced their engagement in July 2025. Following their announcement on social media over the summer, Mitchell broke his silence about how he's feeling.
"Man, that's my dog. I love her to death," Mitchell told reporters during the Cavs Media Day in September.
"She’s amazing. She’s an amazing human being. She brings me peace," he continued, adding that he was able to accompany her during her Why Not More Tour?
"Getting to spend time with her on tour was something that was very unique 'cause you realize that she travels and works just as hard as we do. On the tour bus, up late nights," Mitchell added.
"She's a special human," he continued. "And you see it in her work, and to be able to call her my fiancée, my wife, is a blessing. So, I'm grateful."
