Aaron Rodgers reveals wife's role in Steelers signing image

Aaron Rodgers recently signed a one-year $13.65 million contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers with a $10 million signing bonus and $10 million guaranteed. While the amount is way less than what Rodgers signed previously for the New York Jets (3-year deal worth $112.5 million, with $75 million fully guaranteed) he revealed that someone from his wife's family convinced him to take the deal.

"I was taking orders from my (new) sister-in-law, Mia,' Rodgers said per The Daily Mail. "She’s 20 and she’s the brains of the family; you just have to ask her."

Rodgers stressed that money wasn't a driving force in his choosing to continue playing football.

"No - but that is partially serious for sure," he added. "Every team that I talked to, I said, "Listen, if I play, I’m not going to take a ton of money. I’ve made a ton of money. I don’t need the money."

Rodgers revealed he got married "a few months" ago in a press conference last month.  He has only publicly referred to his wife, Brittani, by her first name.

In an interview last week, the Super Bowl champion praised his wife for supporting him throughout every aspect of life.

“When you meet the right one, and you’re with the right one, your world changes in a second,” he explained in an interview with  Sports Illustrated on July 26. “To have that person who loves you unconditionally behind the scenes, there’s no better feeling in the world.”

“I’ve got the most incredible wife,” he continued. “I just really love her, and I’m so grateful to have her by my side at the end. When you have that stability and that rock behind you at the house, you feel like you could do anything.”

Rodgers has made rare comments about Brittani after being open about how she wants to remain private and how his previous relationships with women in the industry have not worked out. The Steelers quarterback was previously in a relationship with actress Olivia Munn, NASCAR driver Danica Patrick, and was engaged to actress Shailene Woodley.

"It's a sick society, isn't it? I lived in the public eye for 20 years, I had public relationships," he told The Pat McAfee show.

"How did that work out? I had people leaking my home information, and making up stories, I had people calling the paparazzi, I had people posting my personal life on the internet. I didn't want that, didn't like any of that."

During his conversation with McAfee, he shared that after he retires, he has no desire to be a public figure.

"I didn't need this. I don't feel the need to prove anything to anybody," he said on 'The Pat McAfee Show'. "I don't want the attention, I know that's out there. When this is all done, you won't see me. I don't want to live a life in the public eye."

If Rodgers retires after this season, he will have been in the NFL for 21 seasons.
