Many remember the moment that tennis legend Coco Gauff took the win over Aryna Sabalenka in the French Open on June 7. However, many also remember Sabalenka’s controversial comments after Gauff’s victory, in which she seemingly dismissed Gauff’s triumph, even blaming the windy conditions that day.

Now, Sabalenka is publicly apologizing for her comments and says that she regrets what she said.

"That was just completely unprofessional of me," Sabalenka said in a recent interview. "I let my emotions get the better of me. I absolutely regret what I said back then. You know, we all make mistakes. I'm just a human being who's still learning in life. I think we all have those days when we lose control.”

Sabalenka noted that she isn’t just apologizing publicly but has apologized to Gauff directly as well.

“But what I also want to say is that I wrote to Coco afterward -- not immediately, but recently,” she continued.

Sablenka said that she shouldn’t have made her comments at that press conference while she was still very emotional from the disappointing loss.

"It took me a while to look at it again, to go into it with my eyes open and to understand. I realized a lot about myself,” she said.
