Football legend Cam Newton has become known for his bold fashion choices — and he didn’t disappoint in Brazil.

His wild look was compared to both Johnny Depp and Crocodile Dundee, and quickly became a trending topic coming out of the NFL season opener for the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers (who won, 27-21).

Even though the weather stayed temperate — mid-60s — in São Paolo for the game, “Super Cam” layered multiple jackets that were especially noticeable around his neck and caused his stomach to look like he was wearing padding. He topped the look with an oversized wide-brimmed hat.

“Why does Cam Newton always look like he’s about to link up with Johnny Depp and take over The Black Pearl,” quipped one post on X (formerly Twitter).

“Cam Newton is in Brazil looking like Black Johnny Depp,” agreed another fan.

“Cam Newton is what happens when Johnny Depp’s stylist has finally given up,” said a third.

Others compared him to Crocodile Dundee or just generally didn’t understand the fashion choices at all.

“Does Cam Newton not care that he looks like a Pimp Clown,” asked one.

“I feel like someone in Hollywood gave Cam Newton full access to a studio costume wardrobe when he retired and he is making the most of his opportunity,” said another.

“How many jackets do you need?” wrote a third. “Buttons holding on for dear life!”

The former quarterback was at the game, which was the NFL’s first ever in Brazil and the second in South America, to report for YouTube. The platform aired the entire game for free.
