Teyana Taylor shares Iman Shumpert co-parenting update

Teyana Taylor is opening up about where things stand with her ex-husband, NBA star Iman Shumpert, more than a year after their divorce became public—and her focus remains squarely on their children.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Taylor described divorce as a form of loss, explaining that it comes with its own grieving process. At the same time, she emphasized that parenting changes the equation.

“Once children are involved, you understand the importance of really still having to show up for each other,” she said, adding that co-parenting is a long-term commitment that requires effort and maturity from both sides.

Taylor and Shumpert share two daughters, Junie, 10, and Rue, 5. The former couple married in 2016 and separated in 2023, with their divorce finalized in July 2024. Despite the legal battles that followed, Taylor stressed that she doesn’t want their story to discourage others from believing in marriage. She called marriage “a beautiful thing,” even when it doesn’t last forever.

When Taylor first confirmed the split in September 2023, she made it clear that infidelity was not a factor. In an Instagram post at the time, she described Shumpert as a close friend and business partner, writing that they remained “one hell of a team when it comes to coparenting.” She also noted that keeping their private matters off social media helped them navigate the separation with less outside interference.

The divorce proceedings themselves were not without conflict. Taylor filed in January 2023, citing cruel treatment, while Shumpert denied those claims and said their marriage simply could not be repaired.

Tensions resurfaced in 2025, when both accused each other of leaking details about their settlement. A judge ultimately ruled in Shumpert’s favor, ordering Taylor to pay $70,000 after finding her in contempt of court.

Taylor later addressed the situation during an appearance on The Breakfast Club, saying she paid the amount without hesitation. “If it’s gonna give me my peace and we can be done with this for good, I sent that wire so fast,” she said, calling it “the best lil’ coin” she ever spent.
