Spike Lee recently sat down with Kevin Durant's Boardroom for a discussion regarding his career, and amongst the topics he discussed was his admiration for the late legendary singer Prince.
The interview, which was conducted by Rich Kleiman and written by Damien Scott, took place at Lee's 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks production studio right before the Cannes Film Festival debut of his upcoming film 'Highest 2 Lowest,' which stars his longtime friend and collaborative partner Denzel Washington. The conversation included the iconic director talking a bit about his new film, his older works, NYC sports, Michael Jackson, A$AP Rocky and more. In the midst of reflecting, Lee also reminisced a bit about his friendship with Prince.
"Me and Prince were tight," he told Kleiman, adding, "And we would see each other maybe one every five years...there's a famous picture of us sitting together at the All-Star game. I said 'Prince, I need a guitar' because I'm a collector. Prince looked at me like I had three heads!

"If there was a balloon, like a comic book...it was like N—please!," he continued. "And then a year later, this big a—s guitar case shows up. The people that are my heroes and sheroes, they were given a God given gift, and maximized it. When you see someone like that, and they're at the top of their craft...it's being around God-like. These were our heroes when we were growing up. And that doesn't change."
Boardroom fans certainly found the conversation interesting as well, with commenters writing: "We need a spike Lee biopic. Directed by spike lee," and "Spike is an incredible storyteller."
Indeed, Spike Lee is a great storyteller.
